About Us

Austin Chinese School was founded in September 1978 and is one of the longest-established nonprofit Sunday Chinese schools in the Austin area. Beginning with just over thirty students, the school has steadily grown to serve more than one hundred students today, thanks to the active involvement of parents and the generous support of community members.

Austin Chinese School is a community-based institution operated with strong parent participation. Administrative responsibilities are fulfilled by parent volunteers on a rotating basis, and our teachers serve with dedication and passion, receiving only modest compensation.

Since its founding, the school has remained committed to its original mission: to make the best use of limited resources in order to provide a structured, effective, and supportive learning environment for individuals and families in the Austin area who are interested in learning Chinese and exploring Chinese culture.

In addition to fostering proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, the school emphasizes cultural heritage and character development. Through a well-structured curriculum and a nurturing community atmosphere, Austin Chinese School strives to help students grow with confidence while preserving and promoting the richness of the Chinese language and culture.
