奧斯汀中文學校成立於1978年9月，在家長積極參與與社區支持下，學校由創校初期的三十多位學生，成長至今日百餘人的規模。校務由家長志工共同協力推動，教師亦以服務社區的精神投入教學。
多年來，本校始終秉持初衷，善用有限資源，為奧斯汀地區對中文學習與中華文化有興趣的學生與家庭，提供一個有系統、有效率且溫暖的學習環境。

課程簡介
奧斯汀中文學校提供完整且系統化的中文語文課程與多元課外活動，致力於培養學生紮實的中文能力與深厚的文化素養。本校課程涵蓋學前班（Pre-K）、幼兒園（K）、一至八年級，以及進修班與成人課程，依照美國外語教學標準（ACTFL Standards）規劃完整教學體系。
語文課程架構
本校所有語文課程均為全中文採用中文正體字教學，並依學生年齡與程度循序漸進安排教材：
學前班（Pre-K）：由ㄅㄆㄇㄈ注音符號開始，培養基礎語音能力。
幼兒園（K）：學習拼音組合與基礎識字。
一年級至四年級：使用《美洲華語》教材以注音為輔音。
五年級以上：採用僑務委員會編訂之《學華語向前走》以漢語拼音為輔音。
進修班：著重中文應用能力、文化素養提升及AP中文考試準備。
成人會話初級班及中高級班：請來信詢問
本校針對學前至高中階段學生，建立完整的聽、說、讀、寫教學系統，同時融入中華文化內涵。各年級教師依學生程度設計生動活潑的補充教材，以提升學習成效與興趣。
低年級課程透過字卡教學、唱遊活動、圖畫創作、手作勞作與口語練習，寓教於樂，啟發孩子對中文學習的興趣。高年級則強化句型練習、翻譯訓練、會話能力與文化介紹，全面提升語文應用能力。
進修班課程包含中華文化研究、散文詩詞賞析與創意寫作訓練，並系統性輔導學生準備AP中文考試。歷年來，本校參加AP Chinese考試之學生皆全數通過，並有多位學生榮獲滿分五分之優異成績。
此外，本校每年舉辦朗讀比賽，提供學生舞台展現學習成果，培養自信與表達能力。
雙語班（Chinese as a Second Language）
本校另設有「中文為第二語言」課程（CSL），為非華語家庭或家中不以中文為主要語言之學生提供學習機會。
初級班 (pre-CSL/CSL1/2)：由拼音開始學習，建立語音與基礎會話能力。
進級班 (CSL3/4&above)：強化語言能力，銜接華語班課程。
課外活動與成人課程
為豐富學生學習體驗，本校提供多項課後選修活動，例如：
功夫、扯鈴、中國結、兒童舞蹈、兒童繪畫等傳統文化課程。
學生課後活動時間為下午4:10至5:00。
為鼓勵家長共同參與學習，本校亦提供成人活動課程，如太極拳班，歡迎校外人士報名參加。

本校每年分為春季班與秋季班兩學期。

Program Overview
Austin Chinese School offers a comprehensive and structured Chinese language curriculum along with a variety of enrichment programs. Our courses serve students from Pre-K through Grade 8, as well as Advanced Placement (AP) preparation and adult programs. All language classes are taught using Traditional Chinese characters and are aligned with the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards.
Language Program Structure
Our curriculum is carefully designed to provide a systematic progression in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while fostering an appreciation for Chinese culture.
Pre-K (Little Class): Students begin with Zhuyin (Bopomofo) phonetic symbols to build a strong pronunciation foundation.
Kindergarten (K Class): Students learn phonetic combinations and basic character recognition.
Grades 1–4: Students use the Mei Zhou Chinese (American Chinese) textbook series.
Grade 5 and above: Students use Let’s Learn Chinese (學華語向前走) published by Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Council.
Advanced Class: Focuses on advanced language application, cultural studies, essay writing, literature appreciation, and AP Chinese exam preparation.

Our teachers enhance classroom learning with engaging supplementary materials tailored to each grade level.
In lower grades, instruction incorporates flashcards, songs, interactive games, art projects, and conversational practice to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.
Upper-grade classes emphasize sentence structure, translation skills, conversation practice, cultural studies, and language application to strengthen fluency and comprehension.
The Advanced Class prepares students for the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam. Historically, 100% of Austin Chinese School students who have taken the AP Chinese exam have passed, with several earning the highest score of 5.
Each year, the school also hosts a Chinese Reading Aloud Competition, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their learning achievements and build confidence in public speaking.
Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) Program
We also offer a Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) program designed for non-heritage learners or students from households where Chinese is not spoken.
Beginner Level: Students start with phonetics and basic conversational skills.
Intermediate Level: Students strengthen language foundations and transition toward higher-level Chinese classes.
Enrichment Programs & Adult Activities
To further enrich students’ learning experiences, we offer a variety of after-school enrichment classes, such as:
Kung Fu
Chinese YoYo
Chinese Knotting
Chinese dance for kids
Creative drawing for kids
Student enrichment classes are held from 4:10 PM to 5:00 PM.
For parents and community members, the school also offers adult activities such as Tai Chi, which are open to the public.

Austin Chinese School operates on a semester system, with Spring and Fall terms each year.
